Fullness! That’s the word!

Friday, March 1, 2024

As every year draws to a close, I quiet my spirit and listen for what God puts in my heart for the next year. For 2024, that word is “Fullness”.

A study of Fullness
Definitions
The state of being complete or whole
The quality or state of being full

Fullness vs wholeness

Fullness implies a vessel with volumetric space that is filled with an external material.
Wholeness implies a state of being without deficit.

Can you be full without being whole?
Can you be whole without being full?

If you break off the top part of a glass cup and fill it up to its new broken top edge, it’s still full but it’s not whole. Conversely, the glass cup can be whole and empty.

So what do we pursue? Wholeness or fullness?

The pursuit of wholeness does not guarantee fullness and the pursuit of fullness does not guarantee wholeness. A person can be whole but empty of … joy, contentment, peace etc. A person can be full but not whole because the past and/or life events have created permanent fissures in their being.

What am I then striving for in my year of fullness? To be full in spite of the cracks and broken edges. Amen!
